Leash training a cat

We often get lot’s of questions about how and when we started harness and leash training. Also what harness+leash we use! After much procrastination, I’ve decided that it is about time I shared it here so it might help you start your cat’s outdoor adventures!

When?

We brought Lahksa home when he was around 14 weeks old and started his harness training indoors when he turned 4 months. We didn’t start immediately because we wanted him to get use to us and his new home. For a week or so we did only harness training at home, then we started on the leash training outdoors.

How?

Lahksa is food and play motivated so we used snacks and play to harness train him. When we started to train him, he always bit on the plastic buckle. You can see the bite marks on the buckle in the picture below haha I will share more in depth about our leash training experience in another blog post!

Other than the harness+leash, we also bought a pet backpack because we travel regularly by bike here in the Netherlands. A backpack to me was the easiest way to transport Lahksa around, for example to the vet by bike.

What?
