Visiting a cafe with a cat!

We made a short visit to the Utrecht City center this month. The weather was not too good to be outside so we found a cafe and luckily they were okay with Lahksa being in the indoor dining area! If you’re in Utrecht, check out Het Gegeven Paard located in the Tivolivredenburg building.

Snacks and drinks

We are very proud of Lahksa. He did very well for his 3rd cafe visit and 2nd visit that was inside a cafe! He managed to stay on my lap longer than I expected. He did try to get down and go for a walk countless times but he did sit on my lap and also in his backpack long enough for me to enjoy my drinks!

Waiter, where is my snack?

Here is our routine during the past 3 cafe visits we’ve done!

  1. Bring him in his backpack
  2. Find a pet friendly cafe
  3. Walk Lahksa around the cafe area to get energy out of his system
  4. Find a seat by the windows where we can put the backpack for Lahksa to watch out from.
  5. Give him his favourite snacks to calm him or bribe him to stay in his backpack/ on my lap
  6. Train him not to get on the tables or seats

Lahksa is not a stay in the backpack kind of cat. He prefers to walk on the leash rather than being carried around in his backpack. Most of the steps we take is to train him to enjoy sitting in his backpack and to ensure that he tries not to go on the table/seats. So if your cat is a chill backpack cat, I think you would be more successful to hangout in a cafe!
